Is playing Blue Ray movies with my PS3 going to look the same?

Q: I am planning to buy a Sony 1080i LCD flat screen and a Blue Ray player. I see many Y!A that indicate I might be better off to buy a PS3 since it will play Blue Ray movies too.

I really like PS games and this would save me about $400.

A: The PS3 has been rated the best Blu-ray player, HOWEVER that was when stand alone players were much more expensive than they are now (under $200).

The link says the PS3 isn't the best (and that's almost a year ago).

I personally used AVCWare Blu-Ray Ripper to do the test, and you are free to use other similar program, most of them have the same function. After running the program, click Add folder button, select a Blu-ray files in the dialog box that opens, and load it. Thanks for running this Pete. I’ve maintained since last year’s disgrace that we’re living the “also-ran” age of Oscar winners. In 50 years, no one will remember HURT LOCKER, SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE, THE KING’S SPEECH, or THE ARTIST on the level of AVATAR, DARK KNIGHT, SOCIAL NETWORK. This year was a weak year for film, there’s no stand-out movie that’s unarguably better than THE ARTIST, but it will still be forgotten over time. AVATAR’s cinematic quality is debatable, but for it’s sheer profit and the fact that it’s the watershed movie for 3D as a format, it has its spot in history.

SOCIAL NETWORK was a masterpiece that found a way to be contemporary and somehow feel like a story that will outlive facebook in terms of relevance.

SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE was a very average film with no standout acting, decent-at-best writing, and great directing. But it will always be in the shadow of Nolan’s Batman.
