LC Vendor Confuses Computer For Bomb
27.04.11
The Lincoln Center campus experienced a temporary bomb scare when a local street vendor confused a discarded desktop computer for explosives.
A vendor noticed the suspicious device with wires protruding from the back at the corner of West 60th Street and Columbus Avenue and immediately alerted the New York City Police Department at approximately 8:30 a.m. on the morning of April 19. The vendor then notified the security guard located at the front desk of the Lowenstein building, who relayed the message to the security supervisor on duty.
"The bomb squad responded and they deemed there was no explosive in the package," Daniel Kiely, director of Rose Hill Security, said. "It was just a computer tower with some wires on it, nothing to be alarmed about."
Before this determination was made, Fordham Security responded to the threat by closing the main entrance to Lowenstein and quarantining a 1,000-foot perimeter around the intersection. The security supervisor met with police officers from the local precinct, who then alerted Emergency Services and subsequently the Bomb Squad.
