Tangled cords, dead computer batteries and the laptop that had seen me through college piled up as I packed for an upcoming move. After searching for one-stop computer equipment recycling, I settled on the Reconnect program, a partnership between Dell and Goodwill Industries .
Through the program, Goodwill accepts old computer equipment — not just Dell products — at donation centers across the country. Elizabeth Johnson , who heads up Reconnect for Dell, provided more details on the program last week. Here are excerpts from our interview:
Why did Dell start this program? Was there a problem you were trying to solve?...
NEW YORK ( TheStreet ) -- Dell (Nasdaq: DELL ) has been upgraded by TheStreet Ratings from hold to buy. The company's strengths can be seen in multiple areas, such as its impressive record of earnings per share growth, compelling growth in net income, revenue growth, notable return on equity and attractive valuation levels. We feel these strengths outweigh the fact that the company shows low profit margins. Highlights from the ratings report include: Current return on equity exceeded its ROE from the same quarter one year prior. This is a clear sign of strength within the company. When compared to other companies in the Computers & Peripherals industry and the overall market, DELL INC's return on equity exceeds that of the industry average and significantly exceeds that of the S&P 500. The revenue growth significantly trails the industry average of 72.7%. Since the same quarter one year prior, revenues slightly increased by 5.3%. Growth in the company's revenue appears to have helped boost the earnings per share. The net income growth from the same quarter one year ago has significantly exceeded that of the S&P 500 and the Computers & Peripherals industry. The net income increased by 177.5% when compared to the same quarter one year prior, rising from $334.00 million to $927.00 million. DELL INC reported significant earnings per share improvement in the most recent quarter compared to the same quarter a year ago. The company has demonstrated a pattern of positive earnings per share growth over the past two years. We feel that this trend should continue. During the past fiscal year, DELL INC increased its bottom line by earning $1.35 versus $0.73 in the prior year. This year, the market expects an improvement in earnings ($1.70 versus $1.35). Dell Inc. provides integrated technology solutions in the information technology (IT) industry worldwide. The company has a P/E ratio of 11.3, equal to the average computer hardware industry P/E ratio and below the S&P 500 P/E ratio of 16.7. Dell has a market cap of $29.1 billion and is part of the technology sector and computer hardware industry. Shares are up 9.8% year to date as of the close of trading on Monday.
