If the market research company – The NPD Group is to be believed, there has been a significant increase in consumer awareness on 3D TV and Blu-ray players since September of 2010.
The survey conducted by the market research company came out with the details which indicate a rise in consumer awareness for the 3D LCD TVs from 28 percent in September of 2010 to 36 percent in February 2011. 3D Plasma TV awareness shows a rise to 32 percent from 21 percent in the same time period. On the 3D Blu-ray players, the awareness rose from 15 percent to 26 percent.
The report also goes on to add that it is the price variation between different brands of 3D TV and the necessity of wearing special glasses to view 3D format that makes the transition to this technology to yet to pick up in a major way. Ross Rubin, Executive Director of Industry Analysis at The NPD Group explains these factors in the following manner: “Concerns about price and an aversion to 3D glasses both saw relative increases as inhibitors to adopting 3D televisions. However, as prices and price premiums for 3D TV decline, glasses are becoming a more prominent inhibitor, and are poised to overtake price.”
