Q: this might be a stupid question.

but if you buy a GPS system for you car. is it something that you have to keep paying for (kind ofl like when you buy a cell phone, and you have to keep paying if you want to use it)

A: Once you buy the unit the signal for directions is free for the life of the unit. Things you do have to pay monthly for is if you want traffic updates. Also the maps become updated so eventually you have to pay for the new maps which cost between $50

Police Blotter: Handgun, GPS Units Reported Stolen

Public Safety officials in Berkley and Huntington Woods have tackled a variety of reports during the past week, including the following.

Coins, GPS unit taken from unlocked vehicle

A resident in the 1800 block of Beverly in Berkley reported that between 8 p.m. Tuesday and 7 a.m. Wednesday, two coin purses and a TomTom GPS unit were taken from vehicles left unlocked in the driveway, police said.

IPod, Magellan GPS unit taken from vehicle in driveway

Sometime between 11:30 p.m. Monday and 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, an Apple iPod and Magellan GPS unit were taken from a vehicle parked in the driveway in the 2300 block of Cummings in Berkley, a resident reported. The resident said she wasn't sure whether the vehicle was locked and that it appeared the center console had been gone through as well, according to a police report. The report stated there were no pry or tear marks on the weather stripping to indicate that the car was unlocked by the suspect.
